From cleansers and exfoliators to serums, moisturisers and everything in between – skincare routines can be… confusing.
Because once you’ve finally figured out which products you actually like and want to put on your face, the next hardest part is trying to work out what order to use them in, right?
But that’s why you have us!
While everyone will use different products for different concerns (you can read our article on the best Skin Virtue range for your skin type here, there’s a general rule of thumb when it comes to layering.
Usually, the application of skincare products should go from thinnest to thickest in texture – meaning the thin, water-y formulas should go on first, while thicker formulas should go on last.
For example, after you’ve cleansing your skin or exfoliating with a facial scrub, it’s usually recommended to follow with a hydrating mist, toner or essence.
Well-formulated toners (such as those in the Skin Virtue range) will help rebalance and refine the skin, while prepping it and ensuring the other products in your routine will absorb better.
Next, you’ll usually reach for a serum (or two!) and any specific treatment products (such as those found in Skin Virtue’s Future Advanced Collection) to address specific skin concerns, before moving onto your daily or nightly moisturiser.
As for the most important step of your morning skincare routine, sunscreen will usually follow your moisturiser.
So, just to reiterate everything above, your skincare routine should look something like this (give and take a few products!):

PM
